Bendat Parent & Community Centre
Wembley, Perth Western Australia
Located across from Lake Monger in the suburb of Wembley, Perth, Western Australia. This building was the final stage of the development for the Telethon Speech and Hearing Centre. The building provides a variety of services which include, a school library, crèche, therapy with specialised audiology booths, administration, training and conference facilities. The internal spaces are modern with free flowing access through the building which is flooded with natural lighting. The landscaping draws upon local indigenous references such as the Wagyl which appears in loose stones. The Wagyl reference relates to the near by swan river and it is believed by the Noongar culture that Lake Monger is where the Wagyl's head penetrated the earth. The landscaping is an important link to the site and is expressed with seasonal and bush tucker plants laid out as a dot painting.
